About this index
NZ Online Social is a small editorial index of hotels, organised into four categories and kept deliberately short. Eleven properties are listed. When a twelfth earns a place, it will be added; until then the number stays where it is.
Why these four categories
Art hotels, capsule hotels, casino hotels and ice hotels have almost nothing in common as businesses. What they share is that each one answers the same question — what is a hotel room for — with an unusual answer. A collection built into the architecture. A berth measured in centimetres. A gaming floor with several hundred bedrooms above it. A wall that melts.
The category slugs are fixed and the list is closed. We would rather write four categories properly than twenty badly.
Geography
The site is geo-neutral. The domain name is simply a domain name; this is not a New Zealand guide, and it does not write from any single country's point of view. Properties are listed wherever they happen to be, and the four casino hotels are in Canada because that is where those four hotels are.
How entries are written
Each entry is prose. No spec tables, no key-value grids, no star ratings, no scores out of ten. We describe the setting, the building and the character of a stay in the kind of language a person would use when recommending somewhere to a friend.
We avoid claims that would need a citation — occupancy figures, awards, superlatives, prices. Prices move, awards expire, and a guide that quotes either goes stale within a season.
What this site is not
It is not a booking agent. There is no reservation system, no availability calendar, no affiliate checkout and no price comparison. If an entry interests you, approach the hotel directly or through whichever channel you normally use.
It is not sponsored. No property described here has paid for its place, and none has been given approval over the text.
On the casino category specifically: those pages describe hotels that happen to contain gaming floors. Nothing on this site is an inducement to gamble, and no gambling of any kind takes place here.
